Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy joined Perry Ellis in 1989. Robert as the President and Marc as the Vice-President of women’s design to create the designer collection and in addition, he oversaw the design of the various women’s licensees. In 1992, The Council of Fashion Designers of America, once again bestowed Jacobs with a great honour: The Women’s Designer of the Year Award. By the year 1997, the two were already immersed in many projects and were soon connected with Louis Vuitton where they started designing and making handbags. It was in this very same year that the initial Marc Jacobs store opened in New York.

Marc Jacobs has been known to design under his own free will without following trends. He has a unique style of casual vintage grunge with sophistication. To keep the company rejuvenated the company withdrew the patterns and styles. New styles and products are introduced in the spring and autumn and it has recently expanded to include crockery, bedding, accessories for the home and office.
